Black Sustainability Activists: Ibrahim Salih Abdul-Matin

To Kick off Black History Month, Beevo’s Beekeeping Society wanted to showcase Black figures within environmental activism and change.

Ibrahim Salih Abdul-Matin is the co-founder of the Brooklyn Academy for Science and the Environment. He wants to protect the planet and promote conservation and has even been the environmental advisor for two mayors to educate policy makers on sustainability. Abdul-Matin worked with Fortune 500 companies where he helped develop tools to fund, train, and support grassroot activists. Abdul-Matin says his interest in being environmentally considerate started from him praying. He usually does his praying at home or in masjids (place of worship for Muslims), but one day when he was young, his father told him the earth itself is a masjid. From then on he has made it a priority to make change. He is the author of Green Deen: What Islam Teaches About Protecting the Planet and also created a blog.
