Hive Check FAQs
What Is a Hive Check?
Beevo Beekeeping Society officers lead guests through a tour of our on-campus top bar beehives. Participants get to suit up and learn about beekeeping practices, bee biology, honey, and more.
Who Can Attend a Hive Check?
Any UT Austin undergraduate student with a valid UT EID may attend a hive check. Membership in the Beevo Beekeeping Society is not required to participate, but priority sign-up is given to Beevo general members and officers.
How Do I Sign Up?
Sign-ups are announced via our Instagram page, @beevobeekeepers, and the sign-up link is released on our website under the "Get Involved" tab. Participation is granted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Spots are EXTREMELY LIMITED.
Where is the Hive Site Located?
Our hive site address is 2655 Speedway Drive, Austin, TX 78712
Any Pre-Hive Check Instructions?
All participants should bring a water bottle and wear closed-toed shoes. Long pants and socks are highly recommended. Participants should refrain from wearing any scented perfumes, lotions, etc.
Are There Any Safety Precautions?
All participants are required to sign our waiver before they can enter the hive site. You can view a copy of our waiver here.
What's the Cancellation Policy?
Hive checks are extremely dependent on the weather, and as such, it may be necessary to reschedule or cancel a hive check. If this is the case, the hive check instructor will notify participants of any scheduling changes at least one hour before the hive check.
